There are hundreds of choices when it comes to who you choose to handle your HVAC installations, repairs and tune-ups. Here at CABS Heating and Air Conditioning, we’re aware that we’re not the only option you have when you put your trust in a heating and cooling specialist.
This is why we don’t shy away from acknowledging our competition. Instead, we work to make sure that we’re providing enough value to earn your business every time. We never take a customer for granted, and believe in earning trust over time through quality work and honest service.
But that doesn’t mean that you should take our word for it. When you’re considering an expensive upgrade to your home, taking time to make an informed decision is important.
We hope that we’ll be one of the HVAC companies you reach out to when that time comes. We’d love to show you what we believe makes CABS Heating and Air Conditioning special. Below, however, we have a brief list of other companies that you could consider.
This list isn’t comprehensive, but includes a number of reputable HVAC companies that service Sacramento, CA and the surrounding areas.
Bonney Plumbing, Heating and Air
Bonney began is 1978 as a plumbing company, and has expanded in the years since to include HVAC services. They also have EV Charger and Electrical services.
Clarke & Rush
Clarke & Rush was founded in 1963 and is currently owned by the son of one of the founders. They do HVAC, plumbing, gutters, insulation, windows and more.
Gilmore Home Services
Gilmore Heating, Air, and Plumbing traces its origins to 1973 and offers traditional heating and air conditioning services and also has plumbing, sewer & drain services available.
Huft Home Services
Huft has three locations in the area and offers plumbing and electrical services in addition to heating and cooling. The company was founded in 2004 and both of the co-owners originally came from an HVAC background according to the company’s website.
Jaguar Heating & Air
Jaguar Heating & Air offers air conditioning, heating, ductless and duct cleaning services according to their website. Among other credentials, they are a Trane Comfort Specialist.
What to Look for in an HVAC Contractor
HVAC can be complicated, and it can be hard to understand why prices vary between contractors. Below, we’ve listed some key features you can look for when selecting a contractor.
California and Sacramento Licensures
It’s rare, but occasionally you’ll see HVAC work being done by someone without the proper license. Not only is this illegal, but it can expose you to liability for damages as a result of a faulty installation or repair.
The easy way to handle this is to require a license number for the contractor you’re working with, ensuring that they are authorized to do business in your city and state.
Good Google Reviews
This could apply to other review sites such as the Better Business Bureau, Facebook or others, but many reviews flow through Google these days.
It’s important to look at three things:
- Is the company’s overall rating high?
- Do they have a lot of reviews (in the hundreds)?
- Are they replying to low ratings and addressing these customer concerns?
No company has zero 1-star reviews. It doesn’t matter how professional you are, and how much you try to ensure that every customer has a 5-star experience. No one’s perfect.
What matters, though, is that the company takes responsibility if a situation can be resolved (sometimes it can’t, for example if the customer is confused and writing the review for the wrong company). If a company is both doing this AND has excellent overall reviews, you can generally trust them with your business.
Saves You Money
By this, we don’t mean that they offer you the cheapest system. Sometimes that can be a trap.
Rather, it means that your contractor understands all of the possible discounts and rebates you may apply for, and helps you to receive each of them to minimize your financial burden.
A new HVAC system can easily run over $10,000! Don’t you want to take advantage of rebates and discounts when they’re available?
What kind of rebates are we talking about though? Some examples:
- HVAC system replacement rebates for energy efficiency
- Water heater replacement rebates
- Air sealing and ductwork insulation rebates
- Rebate to transition from a gas system to an electric system
These aren’t small rebates. They can each potentially save you thousands of dollars on service!
Doesn’t Take Shortcuts
Not taking shortcuts sometimes means the work will actually be more expensive. But it will save you money in the long run, because your system will operate more efficiently and last longer.
Shortcuts can include, but aren’t limited to:
- Failing to match equipment properly so that they operate at lower efficiencies.
- Not accounting for an increase in system power (size) and efficiency in adjusting ductwork and ventilation. Different systems require different airflow solutions.
- Using the same size as your previous system instead of calculating energy needs to ensure that you get the correct size and power of equipment.
- High-pressure sales tactics instead of giving you time to make the best decision for your home and budget.
- Not commissioning all equipment when it’s installed.
These are items you can use to ask the right questions when getting quotes for your home system. They’ll help you to make a more confident decision.
Provides All Relevant HVAC Services
If you work with a contractor that only does installations, repairs and tune-ups, they may in fact do good work. But they aren’t equipped to handle all of your home’s potential heating, cooling and ventilation needs.
At CABS, in addition to installing new heat pumps, air conditioners and furnaces, as well as repairing and servicing any make and model of equipment, we offer the following services:
- Thermostat installation
- Water heater installation & repair
- Ductwork installation and modification
- Ductwork cleaning
- Ductwork sealing and insulation
- Air purification options
- Humidifier and dehumidifier installation and service
We also offer plumbing and electrical home services. These last two may never affect your HVAC, but it’s a commitment to your entire home and its comfort that can be the difference in contractors.
We’re not the only company offering these services either, which is why it can be a good idea to get multiple quotes. This is one of the areas that can help to separate contractors, though, and ensure that you have a trusted partner for a variety of home services.
